The beauty of (in)completeness, March 2024
Artinformal Gallery, Manila

These paintings are part of a continuing series inspired by the use of Gestalt theory in art psychotherapy. There is no exact translation for the German word ‘gestalt’, but it depicts a sense of ‘wholeness’ or something that is ‘complete’. In both paintings, I contemplate the flow or cycle of emotional energy that can flood the physical senses and cause disturbances that are at once both painful and healing. We must go through the pain to get out of it. But the way out isn’t linear; it twists and turns, coils and recoils, explodes and implodes unto itself. It’s a very personal and unique process of finding one’s balance and completeness. The process itself is where the beauty lies; and where we must find ourselves.
